Current Artist In Residence

Jacques Garant

Jacques Garant is a self-taught visual artist who captures and reimagines moments of Long Island life through his art. Currently focusing on creating works for his retirement years, Mr. Garant has been actively developing both art and illustrations.

Since 2023, Jacques has exhibited his work at several local galleries, beginning with the Waves and Entanglement of Art and Science exhibition at SUNY Stony Brook Southampton’s Avram Fine Art Gallery. There, his piece Heading to the Shoals (acrylic on canvas) served as a statement on sustainable fishing.

He has also showcased North Shore beach scenes at the Mills Pond Gallery in both the 2023 and 2024 Member Artist Showcase. In 2024, Mr. Garant entered the Mills Pond Gallery’s juried Imagination exhibition with Dipterian Scout and received an Honorable Mention for the acrylic on canvas painting. His pencil drawing Fish Dreams was selected as a winning piece in the 2025 Member Artist Showcase and will be featured in the Winners 2026 Showcase.

Recently, Jacques exhibited Midlife Crises, featuring a Jeep on the beach, in East End Arts’ Generations exhibition. He also participated in the Lookup exhibition with The Umbraphile, an illustration of the complete solar eclipse in Upstate New York.

Additionally, Jacques presented Reel Advice at the Art League of Long Island’s 62nd Long Island Artist Exhibition.

The current Chronicle Wines display features selections from Jacques’ ongoing Notorious Fishermen of Long Island art series.

Professionally, Jacques is an architect. In his free time, he enjoys fishing, carpentry, and driving his restored Jeep to the beach.
